Born in Patagonia, Argentina, Hebe has travelled most of her life. She says, "Wherever I went,
fabric always drew my attention as a distinctive characteristic of diverse cultures, genre, time,
ethnicity, and even philosophy.  Fabric patterns identify societies through the history of the world
and fabric is particularly tied to women, fashion, and ultimately to art. My /Fabric of Life /series
tries to incorporate all the visual messages produced by fabric: the luxury of silk, the femininity of
flower patterns, or the strength of a geometric print.  And, the fabrics I paint are always portrayed
with many folds and twists suggesting the folds and twists of life as well as encouraging the viewer
to follow the mystery of each turn and the contrast of darks and lights. I do paint other subjects,
but I seemed to be ultimately drawn to incorporate fabric. When painting I could close my eyes
and see where my brush should go to paint every crease and every highlight. When painting
fabric, I feel that I am painting a culture, a tradition, and a message beyond what can be seen."
Hebe holds a Fine Arts Degree in Studio Painting from the University of Houston.
