The Art of Duvian Montoya
"I painted "Our Housekeepers" as part of a developing series which deals with those sometimes forgotten
American immigrants that are seen as an issue, instead of individuals looking for a better life; a life that is hidden
in the shadowy trenches of American society and used on the main stage of politics as excuses for our problems
in health care, social security, education and homeland security.
"In painting this ever expanding series, I hope the viewer will feel the humanity that connects all of us and how
important the lives of the immigrants are to our own.
"Many of my paintings begin with a photo I take of a scene or a person or an event that strikes me as important.
Each is then sketched out in watercolor pencil, followed by an acrylic under-paint to block in the major color
sections. All the detail and line work is then executed in oil paint. I endeavor to use unique brush strokes and
vibrant colors which create depth, emotion and energy."
