Lisa Marie Esposito

Dr. Lisa Marie Esposito, a self-taught painter, works exclusively in acrylics and frequently on large scale canvases.
Aesthetically, she feels a strong affinity for the early Modernists and Abstract Expressionists of the early to mid-twentieth
century. Philosophically, her art work is also influenced by the thought of ancient Greek philosophers such as Pythagoras
and Plato as well as the Eastern traditions of Buddhism and Taoism. Much of her work is wholly non-representational
and employs dramatic contrasts of high intensity, double-complementary colors and large sweeping color fields. Her
compositions arise spontaneously from a harnessing of pure form, brilliant color, movement and energy. / She is an
Associate Professor of Philosophy and Chair of the Department of Philosophy and Religion at Drury University
(Springfield, MO). She exhibits at the Hawthorn Gallery (Walnut Street, Springfield, MO).
