The American Juried Art Salon - Emerging Artists Series
Ken Susynski
As a person I exist in a torn duality, strongly influenced by my upbringing in Germany from the early 70s to the fall of the
Berlin Wall in 1990 while questioning a life in contemporary American culture.  Elements and symbols from my past are
interwoven with narrative compositions based upon contemporary thoughts and events. Thus, truths that define my
personal experiences and passions drive the themes of my work. In the end, the final act of painting is one last, chaotic
emotional response to these experiences that reconciles my goal to visually project this cultural dilemma.

I am an expressionist painter working in oil using thick, juicy color with the assistance of a mixed assembly of tools,
including palette knives, brushes, sticks, plant leaves, cutlery and miscellaneous German items that can afford to get
paint on them. I employ a variety of layered color applications to enforce depth and create a sense of history in each
piece.
