Dai-Giang Nguyen
Every so often an artist emerges who is so original that he or she
fits into a lone category. Dai-Giang Nguyen strives for that originality in his paintings. He calls his work “Upsidedownism”
This involves twisting our visual perspective by altering the alignment of the painted figure’s body. The effect challenges our
expectations while offering us a way of seeing that it is unique. Philosophically, the movement of Upsidedownism has its
roots in Eastern thought: how all things are interrelated, perhaps best epitomized by the concept of yin & yang.
The artist was born in Hanoi, Vietnam. He currently lives in Seattle, Washington.
