Jane Lawton Baldridge
With over 30 years as a working artist, I have utilized most art mediums. My agenda, with each piece or series, is to
share a story, social concept or inspire one with the visuals I create. California Institute of the Arts instilled in me the
desire to think in new and fresh terms and always try to create images that have never existed before. My desire to push
the envelope took me into the digital world where I excelled and won awards and critical acclaim, but even with my
successes I could never completely solve the problem of the textural shortcomings of digital art, though I worked hard to
disrupt the surfaces. The solution was to incorporate everything I have learned along the way and utilize analog and
digital painting, to use paints and glazes, transfers and charcoal, most anything on hand in the studio. The result has
been terrifically freeing. My works now incorporate layer upon layer of different mediums images and meaning.
